The New York Times published an article on 20 March 2004 entitled Where coup plots are routine, one that is not which incorrectly reported Sandline International as “defunct”. Having brought this to the paper’s attention the error was removed from the website copy and a correction appended stating: “An article yesterday about a foiled coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea misstated the status of [Sandline]. Sandline International, a private military contractor cited for its activity in Africa in the 1990’s, is still functioning; it is not defunct.”.
We wish once again to remind those writing on the subject of Private Military Companies, and Sandline in particular, that it is in their interests and the interests of their readers to verify the content of reports prior to publication. Sandline is always willing to respond to reasonable requests seeking verification of information.
